How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Palochkas

Hello Soul Train,

I was wondering if you could put me on the approval list for JS Wiki Browser. I've moved all mainspace articles on WP-lez to proper palochkas, and would like to clean up the articles themselves, but there are too many to do by hand.

(293 article titles had a Latin vowel «I» instead of a palochka, 3 had a Belarusian/Ukrainian vowel «І», 2 had a lower-case Latin L, and 2 had a lower-case palochka. I assume there are similar numbers in the texts themselves. Of course, I didn't change the roman numeral I in titles like I виш йис.)

I can't correct anything in MediaWiki namespace, because they're edit-protected. A few templates as well, like Шаблон:Хкягъунар.

Need your input on a policy impacting gadgets and UserJS

Dear interface administrator,

This is Samuel from the Security team and I hope my message finds you well.

There is an ongoing discussion on a proposed policy governing the use of external resources in gadgets and UserJS. The proposed Third-party resources policy aims at making the UserJS and Gadgets landscape a bit safer by encouraging best practices around external resources. After an initial non-public conversation with a small number of interface admins and staff, we've launched a much larger, public consultation to get a wider pool of feedback for improving the policy proposal. Based on the ideas received so far, the proposed policy now includes some of the risks related to user scripts and gadgets loading third-party resources, best practices for gadgets and UserJS developers, and exemptions requirements such as code transparency and inspectability.

As an interface administrator, your feedback and suggestions are warmly welcome until July 17, 2023 on the policy talk page.

In the Азербайжан article, can you replace File:Azerbaijan with Nagorno Karabakh region.svg with File:Azerbaijan (orthographic projection).svg? In late September 2023, Nagorno-Karabakh came completely under the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan, and the breakaway Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has ceased to exist.

A new feature for previewing references on your wiki

Apologies for writing in English. And also for messaging you individually – I couldn't find the village pump on your wiki.

Hi. As announced some weeks ago ^{[1] [2]}, Wikimedia Deutschland’s Technical Wishes team introduced Reference Previews to many wikis, including this one. This feature shows popups for references in the article text.

While this new feature is already usable on your wiki, most people here are not seeing it yet because your wiki has set a gadget as the default for previewing references. We plan to remove the default flag from the gadget on your wiki soon. This means:

• The new default for reference popups on your wiki will be Reference Previews.
• However, if you want to keep using the gadget, you can still enable it in your personal settings.

The benefit of having Reference Previews as the default is that the user experience will be consistent across wikis and with the Page Previews feature, and that the software will be easier to maintain overall.

Здравствуйте. Стоит ограничение на просмотр изменений 30 дней. Я не могу посмотреть изменений например прошлом году . как это снят . в других проектах можно посмотреть изменения хоть 10 лет назад. Если вы не можете решить эту проблему . кому мне обратиться? Заранее болгодарю .

Research about the tools on Wikimedia projects by the CEE Hub

Hi everyone,

We would like to invite you to submit your responses to the survey dedicated to the tools that are used currently across the Wikimedia projects and the tools that you want to have.

This survey was made by the working group of the CEE Hub, and your responses will be reviewed afterwards, as we want to continue supporting the communities. That support can be documentation for certain most used tools by other communities across the region per specific topics, finding solutions for new tools to be created in the future, creating most needed tools in the region (so called "regional wishlist list"), and many other options.

Он был удостоен званий «Заслуженный артист Дагестанской АССР» и «Народный артист Дагестанской АССР». Он работал режиссёром в Лезгинском, Азербайджанском и Горском еврейском театрах в Дербенте, Дагестанская АССР.
